School Sports Day Clothing Guide for Parents

School sports day clothing should begin with the school's own kit list. Different activities and venues can require different clothing and footwear. General casualwear suggestions are useful for planning, but they do not replace instructions from the school or activity organiser.

Confirm the requirements

Check the required house colour, uniform items, footwear and whether children should bring a change. Ask whether they will arrive dressed for the event or change at school. If specialist equipment is needed, confirm who provides it.

Test the actual outfit

Have your child try on the full kit before the day. Ask them to raise both arms, bend, squat and take a few normal steps. Check that the waistband stays in place and that sleeves and hems do not interfere with movement. An age label alone cannot guarantee that an older garment still fits.

Choose manageable layers

If the school permits a removable layer, select one your child can put on and take off independently. Label it using the school's preferred method and check how it will be stored. Choose layers around the forecast and event arrangements rather than a fixed seasonal assumption.

Pack according to the school’s list

  • Any required spare top or bottoms.
  • Spare socks if requested or useful for the plan.
  • A bag for worn or damp clothes.
  • A clearly labelled permitted outer layer.

Keep unnecessary extras out of the bag. Ask the organiser about any restrictions on accessories or items that might interfere with activities.

Buy only what is missing

Check the wardrobe before purchasing a complete set. A required colour may already be available in an existing item if the school accepts it. If ordering new clothing, compare measurements and allow time to try it on before the event.
